Pakistani government aims for stronger regional alliances

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 7 — Newly appointed Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani has said the new government has already taken strides to strengthen its relationship with neighbouring Afghanistan.

The government has also pledged its commitment to continue support for the Tripartite Commission, consisting of Afghan, Pakistani and NATO intelligence officers who share information to combat cross-border terrorism.

“Pakistan and Afghanistan are brother states and it is a mistake to be dismissive of President Hamid Karzai. Pakistan must have a good relationship with the Afghan government and NATO in order to strengthen the border region,” Haqqani said.

Haqqani also called for a better relationship with neighbouring India, saying that that the Pakistani army needs to reassure its neighbours that and they have no reason to feel wary or insecure regarding Pakistan.

Archaeological research has been going on in Turkmenistan for more than 100 years, which has resulted in the collection of a large number of unique materials. Priceless discoveries were found at the Anau excavation in 1904 by an expedition led by a famous American scholar and are widely known. The study of historical monuments was begun even earlier by scholars from St. Petersburg University. In the 1940s, the well known Southern Turkestan Archaeological Multidisciplinary Expedition headed by M.E. Masson began its work.
