Turkmen sculptor becomes Honourary Member of Russian Academy of Arts

TURKMENISTAN — Renowned sculptor and Turkmenistan Honoured Arts Worker Klychmurad Yarmamedov was awarded the title of Honourary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Academy President Zurab Tsereteli presented a diploma and medal to Yarmamedov at the official ceremony in Moscow.

Turkmenistan Artists' Union President Babasary Annamuradov stated that this was a significant event that demonstrated the high level of of the country's fine art. Yarmamedov is the first Turkmen artist to be awarded this distinguished title.

His sculptures have have been exhibited in the U.S., Hungary, Germany, Norway, Russia, Poland and France. His monuments are integral parts of city panoramas in Ashgabat, Mary and Balkanabat. Among them are representations of literary figures, including Kemine, Makhtumkuli, Pushkin and Yunus Emre, and historical figures Bayramkhan, Oguzkhan and Alp Arslan. His proposals were often the winning selections in competitions for commissioned works.

Both monu mental sweeping art and small sculptural forms hold the same interest for him. He is amazingly lyrical, sometimes delving into the contemporary, but always following accurately details in costu

me, decorations and the external characteristics of his subjects.

By his own admission, history is his hobby. He became interested in it as a student and to this day studies historical periods, cities and battles.

Yarmamedov lives and works in Ashgabat. He might be found at any time of day or night at the Turkmenistan Artists’ Union sculptors’ workshop on the outskirts of the capital. He successfully combines his creative work with the education of young artists by teaching sculpture at Turkmenistan's State Academy of the Arts.
